Meet NEXTAFF Franchise Owners Greg and Vicki Lynch

New NEXTAFF Franchise Owners Greg and Vicki Lynch

Vicki and Greg Lynch are the newest addition to the NEXTAFF Franchise Owner family!

This pair from Alexandria, Virginia is going into business ownership with some pretty different backgrounds. Vicki grew up in Northern California and joined the US Air Force, taking her to locations in Texas, Japan, and Maryland. She served as a commissioned officer in the Medical Services Corps in various leadership positions, including a tour in Afghanistan. She finished her career as a medical services officer intelligence analyst at the National Center for Medical Intelligence. Vicki retired after 24 years of active duty service and worked in various positions in the federal government for the US Navy and in the Secretary of Defense Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Likewise, Greg is from eastern Pennsylvania and joined the US Air Force serving at various locations in the US, Portugal, Japan, and multiple deployments supporting combat operations. Greg left the military after thirteen years and pursued a twenty-year career in federal law enforcement in the years after. The two met in 2010 in Tokyo during their service, and they married in 2016.

So what led to this married military couple becoming franchise owners? The pair’s interest in moving on to a new chapter in life seemed to make sense when it came to franchising.

“We learned about Nextaff online while researching franchise opportunities,” said Vicki in an interview with the NEXTAFF team.

The pair noted that NEXTAFF seemed to be the perfect fit for them after they learned about the training and support offered by the corporate office.

“The support provided by the corporate office and the training seemed to set the Franchise Owners up for success,” said Greg, “The corporate office was very welcoming and took an interest in ensuring that we are prepared and educated, a quality that led us to realize the vested interest the team takes to ensure the success of the office.”

This is something that we pride ourselves on at NEXTAFF. Many of our Franchise Owners started out in completely different industries and trades– just like Greg and Vicki. Transitioning from one career into one of business ownership can be extremely difficult, especially if one’s previous career involved no formal business experience or skills. We don’t believe that this should be a roadblock for potential business owners. So many people seek out franchises over launching a business from scratch for this very reason– it’s easier on individuals with no business background. NEXTAFF takes things a step further by providing thorough, in-depth training and support that you won’t find from other franchises. When our Franchise Owners are successful, our brand is successful.

Just as well, Greg and Vicki noted that another thing they appreciated about NEXTAFF is our unique business model. NEXTAFF offers back office support that removes much of the burden of accounting off of the Franchise Owners and employees, thus allowing them to focus on recruiting and sales– just as it should be.

Greg and Vicki also talked to us about how eye-opening their Approval Day was. At NEXTAFF, an Approval Day (formerly known as a Discovery Day) is an event in which potential Franchise Owners can spend some time at an actual local NEXTAFF facility. There, potential Franchise Owners can meet with NEXTAFF Founders Cary Daniel and James Windmiller to learn more about what the franchise can offer. Approval Days also involve observing regular daily business going-ons, networking with existing Franchise Owners, and chatting about the NEXTAFF business model with the corporate team.

“James and Cary ensured we did not leave with any questions,” said Vicki, “The presentations were organized and comprehensive, leaving very few questions unanswered. Bringing the team in for lunch was also great and getting to meet the local office personnel provided a great perspective of the company.”

“The genuine interest in ensuring the franchisees succeed and setting them up for success was what made us gravitate towards Cary and James,” said Greg, “They did not seem to be interested in opening as many offices as possible to make money. They wanted to ensure the people they are giving franchises to were a good fit and team players.”

Vicki and Greg spend much of their free time outside of their NEXTAFF location spending time with their five children and granddaughter. The pair also enjoy golfing, road biking, and fly fishing. They also raise pointing dogs and enjoy spending time together shooting sports and being in the great outdoors.

We’re excited to see how Greg and Vicki run their Alexandria location, and we’re sure they’ll find plenty of success!

How to hire for the future

In the commercial shipping industry, staffing shortages have been on the rise for years – and the concern is only going to grow. This situation arose partly from an organic shift in the marketplace towards purchases online, accelerated tenfold by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gaps in the labor market have arisen for more factors than just one, however. Data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics show that more than 4.3 million people “voluntarily quit,” jobs in December 2021, just missing the record high from the previous month.

On top of the consumer market, Millenials and Gen Z have previously been reluctant to join the warehouse workforce. Although in contrast to their slightly elder generation, the latter has shown more readiness to pick up warehouse work.

Statistics tell that Gen Z is upwards of 10% more likely to seek out transport work than their former. That being said, the market is also expecting a further decline in the workforce in the coming years. As of April 2022, transportation, warehousing, and utilities have seen the largest increases in job openings.

With so many moving parts, how can businesses stay on top of hiring in the current market? The aid of a liaison that can provide easy access to an available workforce becomes necessary.

Benefits of Working Alongside Franchise Agencies

In the summer of 2022, many industries, in general, are struggling to find the workers necessary to keep up with demand. Employment rates are still lower than they were pre-pandemic.

“As the U.S. economy continues adding back jobs after the pandemic recession, the staffing industry is playing a key role in getting people back to work,” said Richard Wahlquist, the president and CEO of ASA.

The global staffing industry revenue is $445bn, and in the US alone it amounts to over $130bn. There are a lot of reasons why staffing is one of the fastest-growing industries in B2B services. Candidates hired out of staffing agencies are typically more skilled, and ready to fill in for positions requiring years of experience.

When corporations and businesses face a prominent staffing gap, a common gut reaction can be cross-training existing employees to take on work for the missing labor. This is usually a costly mistake, however, leading to problems down the line – sometimes even resulting in more employees quitting!

The logical approach, when faced with seasonal staffing shortages, isn’t to stretch what you’re already working with, but to breathe new life into your workforce. This process is made immensely easier when partnering alongside a trusted and highly useful staffing agency.

Consider the Temporary and Contracted Workforce

When dealing with summer staffing shortages, it’s key to look for candidates with more flexibility in their schedules. Having the right intention and motivation when hiring during these times will truly help in the long run.

Staffing agencies can help businesses connect with workers who are:

Recently graduated students beginning or working on their career paths

      • New graduates are always on the lookout for part-time work, and while they may move on to different work opportunities in the future, they make excellent employees due to a readiness to learn and improve.

Parents and caregivers seeking part-time work

      • During the pandemic, many parents found themselves opting for working from home to help their children with remote schooling. However, now more parents and caregivers are opting for new temp jobs to better align with changing family schedules.

Recently graduated students beginning or working on their career paths

      • Skilled individuals swapping careers paths needing work in-between

Employees brought on during such turbulent times can sometimes even outperform their colleagues. The desire to do one's best seems to shine during the temporary employment period, which in some cases leads to permanent and much-needed hires.
